all of Laura-Marie's zines

Hi, I'm Laura-Marie.  I'm a queer permaculturist trikewitch living in Las Vegas, Nevada with my spouse Ming.  We help run the interfaith peace organization Nevada Desert Experience and Las Vegas Radical Mental Health Collective.  We live in community.

I've been making zines for 29 years.  I estimate I've made more than 200 zines in my lifetime.  The zines I have in print are available for trade, so please contact me, if you're into trading!

My zines are mostly personal zines, or perzines.  I talk about my life--mental health, gender and sexuality, permaculture, gardening, vegan cookzines, serving soup to hungry and homeless people,
Sacred Peace Walk, alphabet zines about growing up a lost child, suicide notes, prayers, poetry, the sect of Hinduism I used to do...

I'm really excited about this zine a special treehouse for fat people.  The ideas are so important to me!

Something else I love is Trike Diaries!  It's new as of pre-summer 2020.

My main zine is a mental health zine called functionally ill.  There are 28 issues.  It starts with me getting into "the system" and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Throughout the 28 issues, I talk about voices, moods, radical mental health, what mental illness is, psych meds, being rediagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, applying for Social Security, self-care, other-care, the Icarus Project, family, paranoia, and feelings.

All issues are in print and available for trade.  Please contact me to put a trade into motion.

Another current main zine is hat genius, a poetry zine.  The latest hat genius is #19.

My poems are mostly autobiographical, mostly short, always freeverse, and sometimes funny in their own way.  I went to grad school for poetry and earned an MFA in poetry, so I know things.  Of course, school's weird, though.  Did I really learn how to write, there?  No, not at all.

Accessible, poignant, strange, fun poems.  Please get in touch if you'd like to orchestrate a trade!

Let's see--what's next.

Resisting Capitalism for Fun is another zine I'm proud of.  I'm up to issue #3 on that one.

The alphabet zine I mentioned earlier, Lost Child, is on issue 4 now.  An alphabet zine has one essay or vignette for each letter of the alphabet.

This alphabet zine is loosely about my childhood and young adulthood: growing up awkward and damaged--struggling.  Feelings, anguish, trying, and failing!

I have lots of other zines, even a cute little quote zine called Fun Is Free!

My zines are all photocopied, mostly text-heavy, and are handbound with thread.  I'm willing to ship anywhere on the planet.  So ask me any questions that cross your mind, and see you at a zine fest or in the mail.

Reach me at robotmad at gmail.  Thanks for reading, and have a creative day.

Love to all,
Laura-Marie

Trike Diaries: an incomplete guide to trike riding for fat people or anyone, really

Add some spice to your life with 36 pages of pungent trikewitchery. I talk about disability and health, Naked Bike Ride costume fantasies, grieving my mom, the church parking lot that's like another dimension, strawberry power, feeling like a sea lion, stanger love, having my foot in a dog's mouth, and sexual vulnerability.  Content warning: suicidal feelings.  Available for trade!  Please contact me at gmail's robotmad.

ancestor

Ancestor is a zine I helped make--I wrote the poems, a friend translated them into Spanish, and another friend did the art.

It's a fundraiser for Immigrant Families Together to help refugees. The suggested donation is $2 to $10.

I have an email you can paypal. Let me know if you'd like one and where to send it!

Thanks for considering supporting this cause.  No human being is illegal.

birth announcement: functionally ill 16

I have a new functionally ill.  It's issue 16.

This is the latest issue of my mental health zine about living with schizoaffective disorder and no health insurance.

This one's about applying for SSI and SSDI, my "mental exam," long intakes, crazy performance, being pushed, and services.

quarter size, 32 pages including covers, black & white photocopy, bound with thread

functionally ill 15

I made a new functionally ill.  It's issue 15.  This one is about therapy, art therapy, goals, locus of control, and losing my best friend.

I am hesitant to share much with the group because I'm afraid I won't be understood. I would rather be unknown than misunderstood.

functionally ill 14

Functionally ill 14 is the just-out issue of my mental health zine.  It's about my new therapist--what she's like, how I feel about her, core beliefs, psychiatry fads.  It's about Ming's OCD and how it affects our lives.   It's about spirituality and mental health, what I go to church for.  It's about getting rediagnosed with schizoaffective disorder--how that happened and how that affects the way I see myself.  And it's about anger management, anger management class, rating things on a scale of one to ten, framing problems, and intentionality.  It's $2 or trade.  Get in touch!  My email address is robotmad at gmail dot com.
